I am tickled to see my article and photos unexpectedly in IN HER STUDIO magazine this month! My article entitled, The Angel Warriors of Bainbridge Island, was originally published in 2017 in MINGLE magazine. I love that my experiences about teaching, traveling, gathering, connecting, and sharing are just as inspiring today as when it happened to me! I miss you Angels Warriors of Bainbridge Island! I hope we get to create together again! Thank you IN HER STUDIO!

Value in Women's Voices
Kelsey Le Mesurier teaches poetry in the NSW in Australia and has graciously obtained permission to use my work on the cover of her booklet for school. I opened the booklet to find the first poem is absolutely one of my favorites! Thank you Kelsey!
Still I Rise
By Maya Angelou
You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may trod me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I'll rise.
Does my sassiness upset you?
Why are you beset with gloom?
’Cause I walk like I've got oil wells
Pumping in my living room.
Just like moons and like suns,
With the certainty of tides,
Just like hopes springing high,
Still I'll rise.
Did you want to see me broken?
Bowed head and lowered eyes?
Shoulders falling down like teardrops,
Weakened by my soulful cries?
Does my haughtiness offend you?
Don't you take it awful hard
’Cause I laugh like I've got gold mines
Diggin’ in my own backyard.
You may shoot me with your words,
You may cut me with your eyes,
You may kill me with your hatefulness,
But still, like air, I’ll rise.
Does my sexiness upset you?
Does it come as a surprise
That I dance like I've got diamonds
At the meeting of my thighs?
Out of the huts of history’s shame
I rise
Up from a past that’s rooted in pain
I rise
I'm a black ocean, leaping and wide,
Welling and swelling I bear in the tide.
Leaving behind nights of terror and fear
I rise
Into a daybreak that’s wondrously clear
I rise
Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave,
I am the dream and the hope of the slave.
I rise
I rise
I rise
Mingle Magazine Article
The January issue of Mingle Magazine contains my second published article accompanied by my photos and my art work-- and I am so grateful! Thank you Mingle! The article is called the Angel Warriors of Bainbridge Island and it is about my time teaching there last May. They picked up my idea from my blog post about my adventures outside of Seattle. The bitter-sweetness of the article is that I refined and rewrote the blog post turned article, on my phone when my Mom was dying in RI Hospital. Writing it was simultaneously the greatest gift and a heart wrenching experience in the midst of so much sadness. And now here it is in full color. I just wish I could show it to her.
